Student governance at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville is organized into three governance groups. These groups are designed to represent the interests and views of students on the campus, local, state, and federal level in any matter concerning education and student life.

All students are highly encouraged to become involved in the governance of their campus. You will gain valuable leadership, communication, and business skills through this experience and have a well-rounded and enjoyable college career.

Feel free to contact any of the following groups if you have questions or concerns.

Wisconsin State Statute on Governance

Wisconsin State Statute 36.09(5) empowers student governance with the ability to formulate and review policy here at UW-Platteville and requires that:

“The students of each institution or campus subject to the responsibilities and powers of the board, the president, the chancellor, and the faculty shall have the primary responsibility for the formulation and review of policies concerning student life, services, and interests...The students of each institution or campus shall have the right to organize themselves in a manner they determine and to select their representatives to participate in institutional governance.”

Student Senate

Student Senate acts as a medium for students to voice their concerns and opinions. They write, recommend, and review policies directly impacting students.

The Senate is comprised of student senators who are elected to their seats. Senators have the opportunity to join internal and external committees. These committees allow our senators to work with faculty, staff, and student leaders in fields such as inclusion and diversity, student involvement and retention, and campus technology. Through these committees, our senators are giving faculty and staff students’ perspective on issues and projects that directly affect you! Furthermore, our senators vote on important resolutions and recommendations that go directly to Chancellor for implementation.

Presidents’ Council

The main purpose of Presidents' Council is to expand the lines of communication between the student governance groups, and to review and make recommendations for a reconsideration vote of the member organizations.

Segregated University Fee Allocation Commission

The Segregated University Fee Allocation Commission (SUFAC) is the student governmental body that is charged with two major responsibilities:

  1. Distribution of the allocable funds generated by the student activities fee required of each student at the university
  2. Reviewing and advising the Chancellor regarding the non-allocable fees charged to students.

These fees support the cost of parking, the stadium, health, Ullsvik Center, textbooks, Children's Center, PAC, ID systems, and municipal services. The Chancellor, prior to each year, sets these fees after consulting with SUFAC.

United Greek Council

The United Greek Council (UGC) is the official elected board to review and recommend policies regarding Greek student life issues at UW-Platteville. The vision and intent of this organization is to strengthen the Greek community while maintaining a strong, positive relationship with the university, community, and the city of Platteville.

UGC works cooperatively with the Assistant Chancellor for Student Affairs and the Greek Life office to provide a source of communication between the Greek Community, the administration, and other UW-Platteville governance groups.

It is comprised of members from every social Greek organization and representative and executive positions are open to any Greek life member at UW-Platteville.
