Platteville Promise FAQs
-
How do I apply?
There is no application. Simply complete the application for admission, be admitted to UW-Platteville (Platteville campus) and complete a FAFSA by July 1 at www.fafsa.ed.gov to establish eligibility. Minnesota residents must also submit the Minnesota-Wisconsin Reciprocity form to establish eligibility.

How will the Platteville Promise show on my bill?
The amount awarded to you in federal/state grants, UW-Platteville scholarships, other tuition specific aid, and the Platteville Promise will always equal the cost of your tuition and segregated fees. As a result, the amount you receive from the Platteville Promise will vary term-to-term depending on how your other aid changes. As a "last dollar" program, the Platteville Promise is calculated after the other aid is added to your account. If federal/state grants, UW-Platteville scholarships, and other tuition specific aid already equal the cost of tuition and segregated fees, you will not receive Promise dollars that term; it still counts toward your four years of eligibility.
-
What if I can’t or don’t want to attend full time?
Students attending less than full time may still qualify for the Pell Grant and state grants, but do not qualify for the Platteville Promise.
-
Do I have to complete the FAFSA?
Yes. The FAFSA is a requirement for program eligibility and must be submitted annually by July 1. If you are selected by the Department of Education for verification, verification must also be completed by July 1.
-
What is the student aid index and/or the SAI?
The Student Aid Index (SAI) is a measure of your family’s overall financial need as determined by the Department of Education through the FAFSA. The SAI is used to determine your eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant and your overall "need" for other types of aid. The SAI is not the amount your family will have to pay for college.
-
How is household Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) defined?
Household AGI is a combination of a student’s AGI plus their parent(s)’ AGI as reflected both on the federal income tax return and on the FAFSA.
-
My FAFSA was selected for verification, when do I need to complete my verification to be included in the Platteville Promise program?
You must complete the verification process no later than July 1 to establish your eligibility for the Platteville Promise.
