We love our students and you’ll love our free tuition!

The Platteville Promise guarantees that the cost of Platteville campus, undergraduate tuition and fees will be covered for eligible first-year students. Students will automatically be considered for the Platteville Promise when they are admitted to the university and have a completed FAFSA on file. Students have eight semesters of eligibility.

Eligibility

*Completion of the FAFSA includes the completion of the verification process if you are selected for verification by the Department of Education.

Benefits

The Platteville Promise covers tuition and segregated fees for up to four years of fall and spring semesters – eight semesters total.

The program provides “last dollar” financial aid after scholarships and grants. Your Platteville Promise is calculated by taking your tuition and segregated fees and subtracting federal and state grants, UW-Platteville scholarships, and any other aid programs that are designated for tuition expenses. Any tuition amount remaining will be your Platteville Promise amount for that term.

Scholarships not affiliated with the university, federal work study funding, and loans are not included in the Promise calculation. If you are using veteran benefits to help pay for your education, please reach out to the financial aid office to determine how your Platteville Promise may be affected.

What costs are included in tuition and segregated fees?

Tuition supports the cost of instruction and segregated fees support the services provided to all students. For more information on your potential tuition and segregated fees, visit our Tuition and Fees Breakdown page.

Please note that the Platteville Promise does not cover the following costs:

  • Textbooks ordered outside of the UW-Platteville textbook rental program
  • Courses outside the standard semester like study abroad, summer courses, or winterim courses
  • Housing and meal plans
  • New Student Experience fee
  • Special course fees.

Additional aid programs exist for each of these. Please contact the financial aid office for more information.

Renewal Criteria

The Platteville Promise is a commitment to cover tuition and segregated fees for eight semesters of consecutive full-time enrollment. Students who need additional time to complete their degree program should consult the financial aid office for funding options.
