Tutoring and STEM Help

TRIO-SSS TUTORING SERVICES

Individual, one-to-one, tutoring is arranged on a scheduled basis in-person or via Zoom. The student is assigned a tutor and will meet with that same tutor, at the same time and day each week.

TRIO-SSS attempts to offer tutoring in every course on campus; however, some courses are easier to find tutors for than other courses. In reality, TRIO-SSS can offer a tutor in nearly all 1000 and 2000 level courses and many 3000 and 4000 level courses. In the event TRIO-SSS does not have a tutor for a course in which a student would like tutoring, the tutor coordinator will attempt to obtain a tutor as quickly as possible. Thus, participants in TRIO-SSS are advised to always inquire about a tutor for their course so that TRIO-SSS is made aware of the request and can make an effort to obtain a tutor.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Out of respect for the tutors and a belief that fully committing to tutoring is in the best interest of a student who has requested a tutor, TRIO-SSS has a strict attendance policy. Participants are allowed three absences from scheduled sessions per course per semester. After the third absence, we reserve the right to discontinue services. Make-up sessions can be scheduled to eliminate any absence. If a student does accumulate three or more absences, the tutor coordinator will work with them to determine if tutoring is still desired and, if so, how the student will better commit to the tutoring so that it can continue.

STEM HELP ROOM

The STEM Help Room is a drop-in room for sessions either in-person or via Zoom. There is no need to schedule an appointment. Participants may just come by with questions and get answers.

TRIO-SSS participants can get help in math courses, general physics, general chemistry, and several engineering courses on campus. Any major is welcome, the STEM Help Room is not just for engineering majors.
