The university supervisor serves as a liaison between the Clinical Experiences Office, the cooperating teacher, and the student teacher. The university supervisor will work cooperatively with the school district to complete program requirements, share the evaluation of the student teacher’s progress, and provide assistance should a problem arise.

If you are interested in becoming a university supervisor you must be willing to serve as a liaison between University of Wisconsin-Platteville and the cooperating school and must have a minimum of three years of teaching experience, preferably in the concentration area that is being observed.

Responsibilities

The university supervisor's main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conferences with the student teacher and cooperating teacher to explain reports and methods for using the reports.
  • Work with cooperating teachers for an orientation and in setting up a schedule of teaching activities.
  • Facilitate communication between the cooperating teacher, student teacher, and Clinical Experiences Office.
  • Completes an orientation and observation visits, along with observation reports, to the student teacher depending upon request of the cooperating teacher, student teacher, or administrator.
  • Submits a record of visits at the end of each semester to the Clinical Experiences Office.
  • Meet with the student teacher and cooperating teacher to discuss strengths and weaknesses of the student teacher.
  • Provide suggested teaching materials to encourage opportunities for reflection and experimentation in classroom teaching techniques.
  • Assess the student teacher's progress on the basis of lesson plan journals, logs, conferences, and weekly progress reports.
