Open Educational Resources
Open Educational Resources (OER) are instructional materials that are licensed in the public domain or licensed to provide everyone with free and perpetual permission to use for educational purposes. By choosing to use OER instead of traditional digital and print textbooks, instructors can help keep the costs of attending college more affordable for students (even with a textbook rental program supported by segregated fees).
At UW-Platteville, the Karrmann Library, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), and Textbook Center jointly provide support and collaborate with instructors who choose to create and/or use existing open educational resources. The OER support staff can help an instructor consider:
- Replacing a course textbook with OER textbooks
- Utilizing non-textbook OER in lesson plans
- Remixing and adapting an existing OER to create a custom resource for a course
- Creating an OER textbook from scratch
If you are interested in implementing or adapting an OER resource, consider applying for an OER grant to support your effort.
For further information on grant opportunities and ways to get started with OER, visit the CETL OER resource page (UW-Platteville username and password required).
