Scholarships
Students who apply to and are accepted by University-Platteville are eligible for a series of general university and specific college/major scholarships. Only admitted students will receive scholarship applications. If you are a prospective student who intends to enroll at UW-Platteville, visit new freshmen scholarships.
Currently enrolled UW-Platteville students interested in applying for scholarships specific to the biology department must complete this application. To aid the scholarship committee, in the "Other Information" section of the application, please indicate biology scholarships that you would particularly like to be considered for from the list below.
Please state your qualifications in the comments section of the general form, and send any required essays or supporting materials to biology@uwplatt.edu by March 1.
Biology-specific Scholarships
- Aspiring Biologist Scholarship*
Current UW-Platteville students majoring in biology who have demonstrated a commitment to a career in biology through participation in an internship or biology-related work experience are encouraged to apply. At time of application, applicants must have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.25. Recipients will be selected based on a written essay answering the questions: "What are your specific post-graduation goals and how has your internship or work experience in biology prepared you to meet your goals?" Essays should be 1,250 words or less. - UW-Platteville Pioneer Biologist Scholarship
Current UW-Platteville students majoring in Biology within their first year on campus are encouraged to apply. Applicants must show promise in biology. - Fiji Study Abroad Program in Biology Scholarship
Current UW-Platteville students majoring in biology who plan to participate in our Fiji Study Abroad Program are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have completed at least 30 credits and been full-time at UW-Platteville during the semester before application. - Chester Dziekanowski Memorial Scholarship
Current UW-Platteville biology majors with botany or ecology emphasis or ornamental horticulture or reclamation major. At time of application, applicants must have completed at least 45 credits (must have junior or senior standing); have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5; and must have completed at least two upper-level biology courses that demonstrate a strong interest in botany or entomology. Preference to students who have volunteered in botany. - Clement E. Miller and Viola M. Miller Biology Education Scholarship
Current UW-Platteville students majoring in biology with a secondary education emphasis are encouraged to apply. At the time of application, applicants must have completed at least 45 credits and have a GPA of at least 3.0. Preference to students who have been active in any of the music activities offered at UW-Platteville. - Craig J. Howard Biology Scholarship for Short-Term Study Abroad or Summer Research*
First generation students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 are encouraged to apply. Must show financial need. Students may apply multiple years. An essay should be submitted to the biology department, outlining how criteria have been met. - Elizabeth A. Duewer Endowed Scholarship in Biology*
Current UW-Platteville students majoring in biology are encouraged to apply. At the time of application, applicants must have completed at least 45 credits and have a GPA of at least 3.0 (≥ 3.25 in biology). An essay is required that includes your career plans and the steps you have taken so far to attain your goal(s). In addition, include any research you have done or any conferences you have attended related to your goal(s) where you may have presented a paper. - George Kettler Memorial Scholarship in Biology
Current UW-Platteville students majoring in biology who are pursuing a career in nursing or laboratory research designed to discover cures for diseases such as arthritis and diabetes are encouraged to apply. Preference to students who demonstrate financial need. - John Busby DDS and Affiliated Dentists Dental Scholarship
Current UW-Platteville students majoring in biology who are pursuing a career dentistry or other health field are encouraged to apply. Preference to students who demonstrate financial need. - Dr. Mike Roy Biology Award*
Current UW-Platteville biology majors who have reached sophomore status at the time of application. Must have met one or more of the following criteria, in order of priority: (1) participating in a biology field course/experience through Biol 4710 selected regional habitats or other biology field course/experience approved by the biology department, (2) participating in an international study abroad program, and/or (3) participating in an undergraduate research experience in the biology department. An essay should be submitted to the biology department, outlining how criteria have been met. - Pioneering Progress in the Fields of Biology Scholarship
Current UW-Platteville nontraditional students (>24 years old) majoring in biology who have the desire to attain an undergraduate degree despite academic hardships are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will show perseverance and persistence in overcoming obstacles or difficulties encountered during college and will be involved with volunteer work or college extracurricular activities. By the end of this semester, applicants must have completed at least 30 credits and have a GPA between 2.5 and 3.3. - UW-Platteville Biology Excellence Award
Current UW-Platteville students majoring in biology who will be graduating in the coming year are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have completed a biology-related internship, job, independent study or extracurricular activity (documentation required). Preference will be given to students who have an interest in further biology education upon completion of their BS degree. At the time of application, applicants must have a biology GPA of at least 3.5. - UW-Platteville Biology Scholarship
Current UW-Platteville students majoring or minoring in biology are encouraged to apply. At the time of application, applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Unofficial transcripts are also required. - UW-Platteville Biology Seed Award
Current or incoming UW-Platteville students majoring or minoring in biology are encouraged to apply. Preference to students who demonstrate financial need. - Percy Lavon Julien Science Scholarship
Must be a member of an under-represented minority population, enrolling in biology and/or chemistry program.
