Podiatry is the area of medicine concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders affecting the human foot and ankle. Podiatrists also need to treat patients with foot and ankle conditions caused by chronic conditions such as diabetes or obesity. With an aging population, there will be continued growth in the demand for medical and surgical care of the foot and ankle which leads to a projected 10% increase of employment of podiatrists.*
Our pre-podiatry program is designed to meet admission requirements for entrance into a School of Podiatric Medicine. The Doctor of Podiatric Medicine will take another four years of school. This is followed by a three-year Podiatric Medical and Surgical Residency.
*According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, these projected growth rates are from 2016-2026.
