First-Year Scholarships
First-year applicants should submit the general scholarship application by February 1, the priority deadline. You may continue to submit the application until April 1, but most scholarships will already be awarded.
General Scholarship Application
In addition to the Foundation and Alumni Association scholarships, eligible first-year students also have access to several special scholarship programs.
Capstan Scholarship
For the Platteville campus
The Capstan Scholarship presents an extraordinary opportunity for students planning to pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Accounting, or Finance. As a comprehensive scholarship, including tuition, room and board, the Capstan Scholarship affords recipients the honor to graduate debt-free from UW-Platteville. Submit the general scholarship application for consideration.
2025–26 Merit Scholarships
For the Platteville campus
Based on your high school GPA at the time of admission, you may be automatically awarded a merit scholarship when admitted. The award will be divided equally over eight semesters, provided you meet the conditions of renewal.
- Level 1 - $8,000: 4.0+ GPA
- Level 2 - $6,000: 3.85-3.99 GPA
- Level 3 - $4,000: 3.50-3.84 GPA
No application required. Only fall entry students are eligible. The highest reported GPA on your transcript will be used to determine eligibility.
2025–26 Platteville Promise
For the Platteville campus
The Platteville Promise guarantees free tuition for eligible students enrolled at the Platteville campus. As a “last dollar” financial aid program, we guarantee to cover any gap between your scholarships and grants and the cost of tuition and fees. Residents of Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota are eligible and the award can be renewed for up to eight continuous semesters.
Must be admitted to the university by May 1 and submit FAFSA by July 1. If selected by the Department of Education for verification, those steps must also be completed.
2025–26 Wisconsin Tuition Promise
For the Platteville, Baraboo Sauk County, and Online campuses
The Wisconsin Tuition Promise aims to increase the number of state residents who graduate with a bachelor's degree. First-year students will be automatically considered for the Wisconsin Tuition Promise when they are admitted to the university, have a completed FAFSA on file, and meet all other eligibility requirements.
Must submit FAFSA. If selected by the Department of Education for verification, those steps must also be completed. As this is also a last dollar financial aid program, students who are eligible for both the Platteville and the Wisconsin promise programs will receive one or the other, not both.
