Mission

The Plexus Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Center symbolizes and supports all diversity in STEM majors. Specifically, the mission of the Plexus Women in STEM Center is to provide support, networking opportunities, and friendships with other students in STEM. It endeavors to empower students to achieve their full potential as leaders.

Through partnerships with institutions such as UW-Platteville, we’re able to further our focus of creating environments that champion, inspire and promote growth, diversity and development. We are excited to partner with UW-Platteville to sponsor the Plexus Women in STEM Center and look forward to actively supporting UW-Platteville’s endeavors in empowering students to achieve their full potential as STEM leaders.

About the Center

The Plexus Women in STEM Center is located in Room 250, Sesquicentennial Hall. It is staffed by the Women in STEM Program student assistants and managed by Kim Sargent, senior program manager, and Michelle Godez, program assistant. It also is the home base for the Society of Women Engineers student organization.

The Plexus Women in STEM Center offers a place for students to meet, study, socialize and network. The center offers a network of resources for current students, faculty, staff and professionals. Resources include six computers with dual monitors, a laptop available for check out, a printer, and a scanner. Students also will have access to cell phone chargers, and other supplies for use and check out. There are also marker boards on the walls and smaller marker boards on wheels.

In addition, there is a collaboration table with a smart TV for projects, group work, and social activities; a lounge area with comfortable furniture for students to relax; a kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, and sink; space for small group studying and meetings; and space for students to store books and other study supplies throughout the day.

Hours of Operation

The Plexus Women in STEM Center is open whenever Sesquicentennial Hall is open. When classes are in session, the Mentor Center is staffed Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.– 5 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m.– 3 p.m. The center is open to everyone.
