Temporary handicap permit information

The University Police Department provides a temporary 10-day handicap permit. If a permit is needed for a longer period of time the individual will have to apply with the Department of Transportation within the state they permanently reside. The University Police will not extend a 10-day handicap permit.

The University Police requires a doctor’s written authorization before issuing a temporary handicap permit. The authorization must be on hospital/clinic letterhead and include:

  • the individual's name
  • the reason for the handicap permit
  • individuals name stating they need a handicap permit

Email the authorization to police@uwplatt.edu.

The 10-day permit may be applied for and picked up at the University Police Office during the regular business hours, upon receipt of the authorization.

Persons with a current UW-Platteville permit will not be charged this fee.  Non-Permit holders will be charged at the rate of a daily permit for each of the ten days.

The University Police reserves the right to place restrictions on any temporary handicap permit issued.

The UW-Platteville 10-day temporary handicap permit is only valid in UW-Platteville parking lots.

If you display the UW-Platteville temporary handicap permit:

  • You may park on campus in any designated handicap stall.
  • If no handicap stalls are available you may park in any non-reserved, legal parking stall.
  • You are exempt from any meter charges.
