InterLibrary Loan Policy
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a system for acquiring materials from other libraries that are not available at the Karrmann Library.
USER POLICY
Library patrons are served through the sharing of resources among libraries. Any faculty, staff or student possessing a UW-Platteville ID card may use the Karrmann Library Interlibrary Loan Service.Undergraduate student requests are mainly filled by Wisconsin libraries; however, faculty and graduate students may request materials available from out-of-state libraries.
REQUESTS SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY
Any faculty, staff or student possessing a UW-Platteville ID card may now use the Karrmann's ILLiad page to request Interlibrary Loan materials.
MATERIALS AVAILABLE
Materials that may be obtained include books, copies of newspaper and periodical articles, newspapers on microform, government publications, and some types of media such as video and sound recordings (at the discretion of lending library).
MATERIALS NOT AVAILABLE
Usually reference books, high demand materials, rare materials, fragile or bulky items, some current year monographs, computer software, CD-ROMs, some VHS/DVD, tests and material with local circulation restrictions cannot be obtained from other libraries.
TIME PERIOD
The average time needed to obtain materials is approximately seven to ten days. Out-of-state requests may take 7 to 21 days.
OBTAIN REQUESTED MATERIALS
Photocopies of articles will be sent electronically to all patrons either through ILLiad or e-mail. ILL library staff will notify patrons by phone, email when non-periodical material, borrowed from another library has arrived at the Karrmann Library. The patron can then obtain the material at the Circulation Desk. You will need your UW-Platteville ID Card in order to obtain material.
LOAN PERIOD
Photocopied articles do not need to be returned. Borrowed material must be used within the stated time period, usually two to three weeks. RENEWALS are not typically granted by the lending institutions. The length of the loan period varies according to the rules of the lending library, and any material may be recalled immediately by the lending library. Materials must be returned before the due date to the Circulation Desk, Second Floor.
COST
Generally the service is free; however, when out-of-state libraries charge the Karrmann Library, the faculty member or graduate student is charged whatever the Karrmann Library is charged. Charges are not incurred without prior approval of the faculty member or graduate student. The patron makes the check payable directly to the billing library.
