In a recent show of its continued support of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s Construction Management and Construction Safety Management programs, Miron Construction Co., Inc. donated a mini-excavator – giving UW-Platteville students greater access to hands-on experience in the programs.

This donation is the latest milestone in a longstanding partnership between UW-Platteville and the Neenah, Wisconsin-based company. Miron Construction plays an essential role on UW-Platteville’s Construction Management and Construction Safety Management Advisory Board and provides internships to UW-Platteville students. More than 30 UW-Platteville alumni are currently employed at Miron Construction.

Dr. Wayne Weber, dean of the College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture, said industry partners – like Miron Construction – are critical in helping UW-Platteville achieve its reputation as a leading provider of hands-on education.

“One of the things that industry loves about us is that our students are ready to hit the ground running,” he said. “It’s more than that. Not only are they ready to hit the ground running, but they become leaders in industry, and part of that is because of the hands-on, experiential learning that UW-Platteville is known for. We are so thankful to Miron Construction.”

The mini-excavator will be used in UW-Platteville’s Road and Infrastructure Lab – a unique component of the Construction Management and Construction Safety Management programs that offers students the opportunity to build a heavy highway roadway and infrastructures related to it from an engineer-designed plan. The new equipment will help students install underground utilities.

“We are happy to support UW-Platteville’s Construction Management Program with the donation of this equipment,” said David G. Voss Jr., president and CEO of Miron Construction Co., Inc. “UW-Platteville is a great partner of ours, and many former students of the program have become members of Team Miron over the years. We’re excited to know that this new equipment will serve as a tool to teach future leaders of our industry for years to come.”
